Dylan Baker’s very first audiobook, THE GRAPES OF WRATH , stands as a classic among audio performances. It’s been celebrated with Audie and Earphones Awards, and Steinbeck’s centenary this year has again brought attention to the fine recording. Dylan is inspired by audiobook narration, calling it an “actor’s dream” that brings together his interests in writing and storytelling. His narrations of COLD MOUNTAIN by Charles Frazier, THE TIGER RISING by Kate DiCamillo, and CHARLESTON by John Jakes each called for deft handling of a variety of Southern settings and characters spanning different generations. Dylan loves these opportunities to inhabit all the characters. And he’s superb at capturing emotional tone, which is particularly essential to the success of abridgments. Dylan is active in film and on stage (Road to Perdition, Williamstown Theater) but also does narrations frequently. An award-winner again this year, Dylan garnered the 2002 Audie for Abridged Fiction for his reading of THE CORRECTIONS . --2002 Narrator Yearbook
