The Intelligent Entrepreneur Audie Award 2011
Before making the plunge into acting, L.J. Ganser, winner of three AudioFile Earphones Awards and the 2005 Nonfiction Audie for his work in THE ISLAND AT THE CENTER OF THE WORLD , was a ship’s cook in Maine, a roofer, a painter, and a swim-team coach. As an actor, he has appeared onstage in New York and in regional productions, has several episodes of Law and Order in his list of credits, and has recorded some 200 audiobooks. L.J. says he had “a nice little scene in the film The Devil Wears Prada, but,” he laughs, “they cut most of it.” His recent audiobook work includes three novels by James Ellroy, BECAUSE THE NIGHT , BLOOD ON THE MOON , and SUICIDE HILL , and PANIC by Jeff Abbott. A fan of “con job” films and books, he particularly enjoyed giving voice to the savvy, tough female protagonist in Rob Palmer’s debut novel, NO TIME TO HIDE. L.J., a water guy who makes an annual Hudson River swim, compares narrating a well-written audiobook to surfing. “You get up on the wave and you just ride those words. It’s effortless. Almost transcendent.” Along with his busy career, L.J. still makes time to record for the American Foundation for the Blind.
